Cheetah Mobile Wins AV-TEST’s 2014 “Best Android Security Product” Award

Perfect Scores Awarded to Apps Clean Master, CM Security, and Kingsoft Mobile Security.

BURLINGAME, Calif., February 10, 2015 – Cheetah Mobile (NYSE: CMCM), a premier global mobile tools provider, today announced that it has been awarded AV-TEST’s 2014 Best Android Security Product. AV-TEST, the leading independent international IT-security institute, also announced that three of Cheetah Mobile’s applications – Clean Master, CM Security and Kingsoft Mobile Security [BI1] (China Only)– received perfect scores in all the respective categories, topping AV-TEST’s scoreboards for the sixth consecutive year.

“We are pleased and honored to receive this recognition from a globally respected institute like AV-TEST,” said Sheng Fu, CEO of Cheetah Mobile. “We’re dedicated to delivering a fast, simple and safe mobile experience for our users around the world, and this award serves as validation that our products live up to the high standards we set for ourselves and that our customers have come to expect.”

Contenders for the 2014 Award for Best Android Security were continuously evaluated throughout the year in six tests that focused on malware detection and usability, including performance and false positives. Products had to demonstrate their capabilities using all components and production layers. Cheetah Mobile’s security applications consistently scored 100% in virus detection, compared to a 90% average scored by competitors in the category.

Smartphones and tablets are increasingly being targeted by industrious hackers – it’s predicted that mobile-based viruses will continue to spread and become more serious as mobile devices continue to gain popularity over desktop PCs and laptops. While the number of people affected by computer-based viruses dropped 15.6% between 2013 and 2014, the instances of mobile-based viruses increased 229%, according to the Cheetah Mobile Security Research Lab. China was hit hardest by hackers in 2014, with approximately 180 million mobile devices infected. Approximately 800,000 devices worldwide become infected each day.
